Trimboli Headed to Vermont

By Jeff Goodman, National Recruiting Analyst

Wednesday, May 18, 2005

New Vermont coach Mike Lonergan is hoping he's found the next T.J. Sorrentine. Mike Trimboli, a 6-foot-2 1/2, 185-pound unsigned senior guard at St. Luke's (Conn.), committed to Vermont on Tuesday afternoon.

This is Lonergan's second commitment since taking over - and both have been significant. Trimboli also considered Siena at the end of the process.

``It was a really hard decision, but when I went up to Vermont it felt like home for me," Trimboli said.

Trimboli actually took four trips to Vermont overall, but it was the one since Lonergan took over that sealed the deal.

``He's a really nice guy and he wants to listen to what the players have to say," Trimboli said. "He understands that players might see things differently and is open to that."

Lonergan has also brought Northfield Mount Hermon (Mass.) forward Colin McIntosh in the fold. Not only has Trimboli played with McIntosh before, but he's also teammates on the AAU circuit with two more of the Catamounts signees - Ryan Shields and Rob Sisca.

``I didn't really think about it much during the process, but it probably did play a major role in my decision," Trimboli said of the familiarity of the other recruits.

Trimboli averaged 29 points per game last season at St. Luke's and willlook to make a similar impact at Vermont. He's also looking to pick up where Sorrentine and Taylor Coppenrath left off.

``I want to make my own name, but I'd like to do it like he did," Trimboli said. "I've got big shoes to fill, but I'm going to work real hard."
